Youth Program
In collaboration with Asian Youth Prevention Services (AYPS), KCI coordinates a Youth Program that targets middle school and high school students and facilitates their development towards making healthy and sustainable life-decisions. The program's curriculum focuses on mental wellness, substance abuse prevention, and social and cultural awareness and consists of the following components:
After School Activities and Outings
Our youth are provided with mentorship, homework assistance, and fun activities in a safe and welcoming environment.
Weekly Group Dialogue and Interactive Curriculum
We engage youth in weekly discussions about topics that include personal changes, peer pressure, sex, gender, etc. Within these groups, an interactive curriculum exposes youth to the risks of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, HIV and AIDS, self-awareness and other issues that may affect their lives.
Counseling and Case Management
The Youth Coordinator is available to talk with youth one-on-one if there are issues that need to be discussed in private. We also provide links to other resources (tutoring, employment assistance, mental health services, etc.) in the community for further support.
Alternative Activities
Youth participate in a wide range of activities including arts & crafts, creative writing, sports, field trips, amusement park visits, and pizza parties. KCI also offers youth the use of its computer labs and movie room, where they can enjoy karaoke, watch movies, and use the center's collection of Korean DVDs and Korean music.
We welcome all youth to our program. For more information, contact at 415-441-1881.
